ENYIMBA 2-0 WIKKI TOURISTS
The Peoples Elephant are relishing a memorable week in their history after returning to the top of the league again barely three days after the win over Warri Wolves in the final of the Federation Cup.
The Aba Millionaires jumped to the top on better goals difference after a 2-0 home win over Wikki Tourists at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba. Bayelsa United, Pillars and El Kanemi Warriors their nearest challengers all lost away from home. Enyimba are on top with 52 points and a goals difference of +13 from 31 games while Bayelsa United are second with 52 points with +3 goals difference after 32 games. Pillars (51 points) and El Kanemi (51 points) are third and fourth respectively.
Enyimba benefited from the standing instruction from their chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu who advised players and officials to put all celebration on hold for now till a later date.
Both goals were scored by Ifeanyi Edeh and Josiah Maduabuchi in the second and 32nd minutes of the first half.
NASARAWA UNITED 2-1 BAYELSA UNITED
The Lafia side eased their relegation woes with a 2-1 win over second-placed Bayelsa United. Malachy Illoh and Musa Adamu got the goals for Nasarawa United while Uche Ihuarulam netted the Restoration Boys' consolation goal.
Nasarawa are 15th on the log with 42 points from 32 games while Bayelsa United are second with 52 points from as many games.
KWARA UNITED 2-0 GOMBE UNITED
The Afonja Warriors dismantled the mouthful Savannah Scorpions 2-0 at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin on Wednesday.
John Uche and Evans Iyoro's strikes in the 46th and 72nd minutes handed maximum points to the Ilorin side.
Gombe United's unimpressive away record continued in style at Ilorin as they are yet to gain any away point this season. They have however been vicious at home to away teams.
Kwara United move to sixth on the log with 47 points from 31 games while Gombe United slipped to eighth on the log with 46 points from 32 matches.
HEARTLAND 1-1 3SC
The Naze Millionaires extended their unbeaten run to five consecutive games but they lost more ground at home after they allowed the Oluyole Warriors to return to Ibadan with a point.
3SC shocked the seated Owerri fans with the opener in the 38th minute through Gabriel Adiukwu but Heartland fought back gamely and got the equaliser in the 57th minute through Ikechukwu Ibenegbu from the penalty spot.
3SC are still in the relegation zone with 39 points from 31 games while Heartland are ninth with 45 points from 32 matches. The Oluyole Warriors are in 18th position.
ENUGU RANGERS 3-1 AKWA UNITED
The Flying Antelopes gained a measure of revenge over their adversary from Uyo with a 3-1 victory at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Ugonna Uzochukwu was Rangers hero with two goals in the first half before trhe icing on the cake in the second half when Christian Obiozor scored the third. Mfon Udoh later got a consolation goal for Akwa United.
Rangers are fifth on the log with 48 points from 32 matches while Akwa United are on 42 points from as many matches.
NEMBE CITY 1-0 KANO PILLARS
The Yenagoa side sent back Sai Masu Gida empty-handed to Kano despite the visitors taking flight to nearest Port Harcourt Airport to ease the long trip. They lost 1-0 to Nembe City.West Sobomabo scored the only goal of the game on 41 minutes before he got injured.
The Samson Siasia Stadium witnessed another close loss by the league reigning champions after Bayelsa United beat them by same scoreline earlier in the season on the same turf.
The privately owned club needed an outright victory keep hope of another sojourn in the elite division alive and they did get it about four minutes before halftime.
Nembe are now on 42 points from 32 games and are placed 17th while Pillars are third with 51 points from 31 games.
WARRI WOLVES 0-0 LOBI STARS
Lobi Stars of Makurdi moved a step closer towards retaining their top flight status with a morale boosting goalless draw at the Warri Township Stadium against Warri Wolves.
Warri Wolves just lost in the final of the Federation Cup barely three days at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos and their lack of enough time to prepare was obvious throughout the match.
The game started eight minutes behind schedule but it was the visitors that gained the opening initiatives in the early part of the encounter before Warri Wolves finally woke up but were denied from scoring the opener through the eye catching saves of Lobi's goalie, Terkaa Melai in the 7th and 14th minute. He saved the effort from a Wolves player in the 7th before he misled Musa Najere into playing his screamer agonisingly wide.
The game went into a sort of anticlimax as both sides maintained the game at a rather pedestrian pace with no much entertaining value till the end of the first half.
Second half wasn't that different as both combatants failed to lift their game to the disappointment of their fans.
Lobi's supremo Dominic Iorfa told Goal that the battle towards a soft landing in the elite division next season is not yet won. He appealed to his wards not to celebrate yet as they head back home to prepare for the next round of game.
"We are happy we got a draw but we need to put celebration on hold until our premiership status is got. We shall go back home to prepare for our next match immediately," Iorfa told Goal.
Lobi are on 42 points from 32 matches and they 16th on the log on goals difference with Nasarawa United who moved to 15th courtesy of their 2-1 home win over Bayelsa United. The Lafia side are on 42 points from as many games.
KADUNA UNITED 1-0 DOLPHINS
Wasteful Kaduna United hung on to a 1-0 home win over Dolphins at the Kaduna Township Stadium on Wednesday.
Dolphins held on until Ali Kwanti Adamu's goal about 20 minutes from time lifted Kaduna United to 44 points from 32 matches while the Port Harcourt side are still on 44 points from same number of matches.
SUNSHINE STARS 1-0 EL KANEMI WARRIORS
The Akure Gunners got the most sought after maximum points at home to El Kanemi Warriors at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday.
Kenneth Omeruo's elder brother, Christian Josiah netted from the spot in the 32nd minute for the solitary goal.
The goal lifted Sunshine to 41 points from 31 games and they wait on the decision of the NFF's O&D on Friday on the tie involving them and 3SC. El Kanemi are still in fourth position despite the loss at Akure. They have 51 points from 32 matches.
SHARKS 4-0 ABS
It was goals rain at the Sharks International Stadium, Port Harcourt after the Blue Angels rammed home four goals against ABS of Ilorin on Wednesday.
Christian Pyagbara, Flying Eagles' former star, Fortune Omoniwari, Tayo Fabiyi and Stowe Thompson all netted in arguably Sharks best game of the season.
